In letzter Zeit wurde der Zebrabuntbarsch in verschiedenen Gattungen geführt, sodaß er auch als Cryptoheros nigrofasciatus, Archocentrus nigrofasciatus oder Cichlasoma nigrofasciatus bekannt ist.
